Best known for its well-received The Witcher series, CD Projekt is a Polish video game developer, publisher and distributor based in Warsaw. Founded in 1994 as a distributor of foreign video games for the Polish market, the company opened its own development studio, known as CD Projekt Red, in 2002.
The massive success of the popular Witcher franchise, which now totals three main games and three spinoff titles, allowed CD Projekt to significantly expand its operations. The company now houses six different subsidiaries, including CD Projekt Red Vancouver, formerly known as Digital Scapes, which was acquired earlier this year in March.

Digital Scapes had assisted CD Projekt Red with the development of Cyberpunk 2077 before joining the CD Projekt family. Despite the myriad of issues with Cyberpunk 2077, it appears that CD Projekt will continue to expand. Announced to investors today, the company revealed that it has purchased Boston-based independent studio The Molasses Flood. Best known for the roguelike survival adventure The Flame in The Flood, The Molasses Flood sold 60% of the studio to CD Projekt, with the remaining 40% being transferred over time. The announcement also mentioned that the newly acquired studio will be working on its own project based on one of CD Projekt's existing IPs. While this title is most likely in The Witcher or Cyberpunk 2077 universes, it is unknown exactly what the studio is working on or the scope of the project.

The Molasses Flood Twitter account has published a statement confirming the news, revealing some details: "We can build a completely new game in the universe of an existing CD Projekt IP, we can hire a lot more people, and we get to continue creating games. based on the same principles that have always guided us: making games with hearts built on rich game systems. " The company then adds that CD Projekt is not absorbing it, but rather accepting and endorsing it. Other Twitter users are reacting positively to the news, with many fans congratulating the team and sharing their enthusiasm for what he and CD Projekt can create in the future. Some Twitter members blatantly comment that this acquisition may help prevent CD Projekt Red from re-releasing a buggy game like Cyberpunk 2077.

There have been many different acquisitions from exciting game studios lately. PlayStation recently bought Bluepoint Games, which developed the well-received remake of Demon’s Souls, and Microsoft has been buying studios left and right to try and expand its production of its own games. Still, despite Cyperpunk 2077's troubles, CD Projekt remains one of the most prolific companies in gaming today, and it will be interesting for fans to see what they can produce alongside The Molasses Flood together as part of this collaboration.
