Mojang recently revealed the three new Minecraft mobs available for the Minecraft Live 2021 mob vote, and a Reddit user compared the options to the initial Pokemon options. Like last year, Mojang is letting the Minecraft community decide which mob will be added alongside the 3D voxel sandbox. During Minecraft Live 2021 on October 16, fans will choose from Copper Golem, Allay, or Glare, three new mobs with their own unique abilities. Mojang did the same last year, allowing the community to choose the new Minecraft mob during Minecraft Live 2020. The choice then was between Glow Squid, Iceologer, and Moobloom. The Glow Squid finally prevailed and arrived alongside the Caves & Cliffs Part 1 update earlier this year.

For this year's Minecraft mob vote, Mojang first introduced Glare, a passive mob that shows players dark spots where other mobs can appear. This utility will be especially useful when the Caves & Cliffs Part 2 update drops later this year, because the update adjusts the light level requirements for dangerous mobs to spawn. The second new mob was Allay, a flying creature who gives gifts to players in exchange for music. Upon receiving a collectible, craftable, or block item, the Allay searches for more of that item and gives it to players if there is a musical note nearby.

The Copper Golem is a fully buildable mob and would bring with it a new copper button. Following the announcement of the vote, the new Minecraft mobs were compared to the initial Pokémon options. Reddit user shyamadash posted an image of the Copper Golem, Allay, and Glare that reflected more of a Pokémon art style. Under each mob was a description comparing them to the starting options available at the beginning of the Pokémon video games. The Copper Golem was listed as a fire / steel type, the Allay was listed as a water / flying type, and the Glare was listed as a grass / ghost type Pokémon. Just below the three mobs were Poké Balls. This artwork led other Reddit users to notice the resemblance between the three mob options and the starter Pokémon.

Starter Pokémon are the Pokémon that a trainer chooses at the beginning of their adventure. In most of the main games in the franchise (though not all), Trainers can choose from three starter Pokémon. Typically, the three starter Pokémon to choose from fall into Grass, Fire, or Water types. Sometimes, as with Bulbasaur, the starter Pokémon will have a secondary type. Shyamadash pointed out that the Copper Golem, Allay, and Glare seemed to fit the initial three types. Another fan, however, suggested that the Allay fall under the water / fairy type rather than water / flying type, due to its pixie appearance.

Certainly, Mojang may have taken some inspiration from Pokémon to design the three mob options for this year's Minecraft Live event. As for which mob will join the ranks in a future update, fans will have to cast their vote on October 16 when Minecraft Live 2021 begins.
