Upcoming open world racing game Forza Horizon 5 has a lot of excitement behind it after some impressive introductions, and luckily for Forza fans, the wait to play is almost over. Forza Horizon 5 has gone gold and development is complete, so the Playground Games team has flipped the switch for preloads to begin on PC and Xbox consoles. And considering the size of the game, some fans will definitely want to take the opportunity to preload.

Forza Horizon 5 file size varies by platform, but exceeds 100GB regardless of how you choose to play it. Those on PC and Xbox Series X are looking for a 103GB download, while those hoping to play Forza Horizon 5 on Xbox One will have to download a massive 116GB file. In the meantime, those planning to play the Steam version on PC cannot preload just yet, although Playground Games has said it will provide an update on its social media when Steam preload becomes available. Anyone with an Xbox Game Pass subscription or who has pre-ordered Forza Horizon 5 can preload the game now, although it's always possible that a day one update will be released at launch. If that happens, Forza Horizon 5 fans may encounter a snag the first time they try to play the game, but they still need to be well ahead of the curve, regardless of whether they take the time to download the 103-116GB in advance.

Forza Horizon 5's official release date is November 9, but fans will have the opportunity to play it early if they wish. Those who purchase Forza Horizon 5 Premium Edition will get early access to the game and will be able to participate on November 5. This will give them a four-day advantage against everyone else, which may be worth the asking price for die-hard fans who don't want to wait for the Xbox Game Pass version.

Playground Games has an impressive track record when it comes to its Forza Horizon titles, with every game in the series released so far to great critical acclaim. There's no reason to think that Forza Horizon 5 won't enjoy the same warm reception, especially since it's the most visually impressive and ambitious game in the series to date. The familiarity and fatigue of the franchise may show up for some, but this is likely to be the last Forza Horizon game for a while, which might help.

Microsoft may hand over the reins of the Forza Horizon series to another developer, but next on the Playground Games board is the Fable reboot. In development as a next-gen exclusive game, Fable's new game is shrouded in mystery for now, but it will be exciting to see what form it takes each time the reveal happens.
